Daop 6 records 122,191 long-distance train passengers during Independence Day holiday period

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 6 Yogyakarta recorded a total volume of long-distance train passenger departures and arrivals reaching 122,191 people during the long holiday period marking the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on 14–17 August 2026.

KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta Public Relations Manager Feni Novida Saragih said the figure consisted of 61,612 departing passengers and 60,579 arriving passengers across all stations in the Daop 6 region.

“Based on monitoring on Friday (14/8/2026), the total number of long-distance train passengers boarding and alighting was 38,439 people, comprising 14,729 departing passengers and 23,710 arriving passengers. This high volume shows that trains remain the transport mode of choice for tourism, family visits, and business travel,” Feni said.

She explained that the surge in public movement was also driven by the momentum of the long Independence Day holiday, which had a positive impact on tourism visits in the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java.

To show appreciation to the public, KAI Daop 6 organised a special promotion in the form of a 17 percent fare discount, in addition to presenting thematic independence decorations at major stations.

Yogyakarta Station and Lempuyangan Station were recorded as the busiest hubs during the 14–17 August 2026 period.

The following is a breakdown of passenger departure volumes at the six highest stations in the Daop 6 Yogyakarta region: Yogyakarta Station with 30,244 passengers, Lempuyangan Station with 17,563 passengers, and Solo Balapan Station with 6,702 passengers.

Furthermore, Klaten Station had 2,333 passengers, Purwosari Station had 2,274 passengers, and Solo Jebres Station had 925 passengers.

Meanwhile, the highest passenger arrival volumes were recorded at Yogyakarta Station with 29,193 passengers, Lempuyangan Station with 17,170 passengers, Solo Balapan Station with 7,543 passengers, Klaten Station with 2,302 passengers, Purwosari Station with 1,992 passengers, and Wates Station with 1,022 passengers.

“KAI Daop 6 is committed to continuously maintaining operational safety, improving service quality at stations and on trains, and making ticket booking easier through the Access by KAI application to support the growth of the regional economy and tourism sector,” Feni said.
