Daop 6 Prepares Four Extra Trains and Fare Discounts for School Holidays

Yogyakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 6 Yogyakarta has prepared four additional train sets to accommodate the surge in public mobility during the school holiday period from June to July 2026. KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta Public Relations Manager Feni Novida Saragih stated on Thursday that the increase in trips is intended to offer more flexible departure time alternatives for families wishing to travel. “To welcome the public’s enthusiasm for the school holidays, we have prepared four extra trains. This step is part of KAI Daop 6’s preparations to ensure all customers have a safe, comfortable, and punctual travel experience,” Feni said. The list of additional trains operating during the June-July 2026 period includes the KA Batavia serving the Solo Balapan-Gambir route, two additional Yogyakarta-Gambir train sets, and the KA Sancaka serving the Yogyakarta-Surabaya Gubeng route. In addition to capacity increases, KAI Daop 6 is also supporting a 30 per cent fare reduction programme from the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation aimed at stimulating regional economic growth during the long even-semester holiday. This discount programme applies to 30 commercial economy-class train journeys serving passenger boarding and alighting within the Daop 6 Yogyakarta area. “Ticket bookings with this discounted fare have been open since 6 June 2026 and are valid for departure periods from 20 June to 5 July 2026,” Feni said. Trains included in the 30 per cent discount scheme include KA Malabar, Mutiara Selatan, Senja Utama Solo, Mataram, Lodaya, Sancaka, Gaya Baru Malam Selatan, Bogowonto, Gajahwong, Senja Utama YK, as well as Joglosemarkerto and Matarmaja. Feni emphasised that the discount does not apply to special fares and cannot be combined with other reductions or discounts. The public can purchase tickets through the Access by KAI application, the official website kai.id, and all official KAI sales partners. KAI urges the public to plan their journeys by booking tickets well in advance. Regular ticket bookings can currently be made from 45 days before the departure date. “We invite the public to make the best use of this discount momentum so that school holidays with family can be more efficient and enjoyable. We ensure that all safety aspects and excellent service remain the top priority,” Feni said.
