Daop 6 adds seats to anticipate Independence Day holiday mobility
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 6 Yogyakarta is adding seating capacity to a number of train services to anticipate the increase in public mobility during the long holiday for the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day on 17 August 2026.
KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta Public Relations Manager Feni Novida Saragih said the capacity increase applies to the Sancaka and Progo train services, giving the public more seating options for travelling during the long holiday period.
“The services receiving additional carriages include the Sancaka train on the Yogyakarta–Surabaya Gubeng route (return) and the Progo train on the Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen route (return),” said Feni Novida Saragih.
She said the additional carriages are part of KAI’s efforts to anticipate the increased demand for travel during the long holiday period.
“To face the long holiday of 17 August 2026, KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta is increasing capacity by adding train formations to the Sancaka and Progo services. This step is taken to increase seating capacity and provide more options to the public who wish to travel by train,” said Feni.
Feni said the public can take advantage of this momentum by booking tickets early through the Access by KAI application, KAI’s official channel.
“We urge members of the public who already have travel plans for 17 August to book their tickets immediately. With this capacity increase, we hope the public’s travel needs can be well accommodated and that journeys during the long holiday can take place safely and comfortably,” Feni added.
In addition to the capacity increase, KAI Daop 6 is also presenting a Special Promo 17-8-2026 to enliven the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence.
Through this promotion, the public has the opportunity to obtain a 17 percent fare discount for long-distance, medium-distance and local commercial economy class train journeys on Java and Sumatra. The terms and conditions of the special 17-8-2026 promo are that discounted tickets can be purchased through Access by KAI and the official website kai.id from 14 August 2026 until 17 August 2026 at 11.59 pm Western Indonesia Time.
Furthermore, departures with the discounted fare are valid on 17 August 2026 from 00.01 am to 12.00 midnight Western Indonesia Time, and the discounted fare applies to long-distance, medium-distance and local commercial economy class on Java and Sumatra.
The discounted fare does not apply to special fares and cannot be combined with other reductions and/or discounts. Tickets with the discounted fare can be cancelled or rescheduled in accordance with applicable regulations, and the discounted fare applies while ticket allocation and discounted fares remain available.
“We hope the public can take advantage of this 17 percent discount promo while enjoying the additional capacity on the Sancaka and Progo trains. The public can choose journeys according to their needs and make bookings through Access by KAI or KAI’s official channels,” said Feni.
Feni urged prospective passengers to double-check their schedules and departure stations and to arrive at the station earlier so that the boarding process can run smoothly.
“With the additional carriages and fare promotions, KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta is committed to providing the best service for the public in supporting smooth mobility during the long weekend of 17 August 2026,” said Feni.
