PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 5 Purwokerto, Central Java, has tightened safety supervision of train journeys during the extended weekend holiday coinciding with Ascension Day. This effort is being carried out through route inspections at several points within the Daop 5 Purwokerto operational area.
On Thursday (14/5), Vice President of KAI Daop 5 Purwokerto, Rangga Putra Maulana, directly led the route inspection from Langen Station to Sidareja Station. The activity began with monitoring the tracks from the locomotive cabin using the Ranggajati train on the Purwokerto–Kroya route, and then continued with the Lodaya train on the Kroya–Banjar route.
The inspection was carried out at several strategic points, including BH 1441 on the Banjar–Langen section, the KM 317 special supervision area, Langen Station, Resor Jalan Rel dan Jembatan 5.7 Langen, Meluwung Station, Cipari Station, Resor Sintel 5.4 Sidareja, to Sidareja Station.
The activity aims to ensure the readiness of infrastructure while anticipating potential operational disruptions that may affect train journeys during the extended holiday period.
Various aspects were thoroughly inspected, ranging from the condition of the tracks, switches, bridges, signaling systems, telecommunications, to the readiness of other operational equipment. All supporting facilities for the journey were ensured to be in optimal condition and meet safety standards.
In his direction, Rangga also emphasized the importance of complying with standard operating procedures (SOP) and the accuracy of infrastructure maintenance schedules. In addition, it was ensured that the track inspectors and work crews have valid certifications.
Manager of Public Relations of KAI Daop 5 Purwokerto, M As’ad Habibuddin, said that the route inspection is part of the company’s commitment to maintaining the reliability of facilities, infrastructure, operational facilities, and the readiness of human resources in the field.
“The safety of train journeys is the top priority. Through this route inspection activity, we want to ensure that all infrastructure and operational facilities are in reliable condition so that train journeys during the extended holiday period can run safely, securely, and smoothly,” said As’ad.
According to him, routine inspections are very important to detect potential operational disruptions early on so that handling can be carried out immediately before it has an impact on train journeys.
KAI Daop 5 Purwokerto also noted an increase in passenger mobility during the extended holiday period. On Wednesday (13/5) to Thursday (14/5), the number of passengers departing and arriving in the Daop 5 area reached 59,181 people.
