PT KAI Daop 2 Bandung has taken preventive measures to anticipate potential accidents during the euphoria of Persib Bandung’s victory parade. Train drivers have been instructed to sound the locomotive horn (Semboyan 35) more frequently as a warning to the bobotoh crowds filling the streets on Sunday (24 May). This follows a large-scale convoy celebrating Persib’s third championship title passing through several city centres. Although the main route from Gedung Sate to Jalan Asia Afrika does not directly cross railway tracks, the crowd procession is expected to pass through sensitive areas such as Jalan Viaduct and Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan near railway lines. Kuswardojo, the Manager of Public Relations for Daop 2 Bandung, stated that besides the horn instructions, operational adjustments have been made at vulnerable points. ‘At level crossings, we reduce speed to prevent any unforeseen incidents. We have also added personnel at several crossing points to assist with railway safety,’ Kuswardojo said. Daop 2 Bandung has urged the public to prioritise safety when crossing level crossings. Drivers are advised to stop briefly, check both directions, and strictly avoid stopping on the tracks or crossing closed barriers, as this poses severe risks to life. The extraordinary traffic congestion in Bandung due to the convoy has also affected access to stations. KAI has advised railway customers to anticipate delays by arriving at departure stations earlier. ‘We ask customers to better plan their travel time to stations to avoid missing trains, especially those departing from Bandung Station and Kiaracondong Station, given the predicted congestion on major roads,’ Kuswardojo added. KAI hopes the celebration remains peaceful without compromising transport safety rules for road users or railway operations.
