Danone Indonesia strengthens clean water access recovery after disaster
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Danone Indonesia continued its post-disaster recovery support in Aceh and North Sumatra by providing access to clean water and installing water treatment units at several health facilities in the region. The assistance follows floods and damaged infrastructure that have hit the area since November 2025, disrupting clean water services at various hospitals and community health centres.
LVP General Secretary Danone Indonesia Vera Galuh Sugijanto said that restoring access to clean water is a key determinant in accelerating the normalisation of health services after a disaster. ‘Water is fundamental to life and a basic need in every health facility. Without clean water, medical services, deliveries, and sanitation cannot operate safely,’ Vera said in Jakarta on Thursday.
As part of a collaboration between Danone Indonesia, the Health Crisis Centre of the Ministry of Health and local governments, including the Aceh provincial health office and several district health offices, the programme aims to ensure medical services, sanitation, and facility operations meet safety and health standards.
In addition to supplying clean water sources and water treatment units, Danone Indonesia also distributed essential health supplies to support health workers, in cooperation with the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI).
Overall, the support was provided to seven Regional General Hospitals (RSUD) and 29 Community Health Centres (Puskesmas) / Pustu in the affected area. The support includes the construction of 35 clean water source points (deep wells) and installation of seven water treatment units.
The infrastructures are spread across health facilities in Aceh Timur, Aceh Utara, Aceh Tamiang, Bireuen, Pidie Jaya, Langsa City, Aceh Tengah, and Tapanuli Tengah in North Sumatra, strengthening preparedness and the sustainability of health services in the region.
In addition to the handover of aid, a signing ceremony was held for a cooperation agreement between the Health Crisis Centre of the Ministry of Health and Danone Indonesia regarding support for clean water access to recover health facilities after disasters in Aceh and North Sumatra.
Head of the Health Crisis Centre of the Ministry of Health Agus Jamaludin said that the availability of clean water is an essential component in maintaining service quality and patient safety, especially in disaster-affected areas. ‘The collaboration between the Health Crisis Centre of the Ministry of Health and Danone Indonesia demonstrates constructive collaboration in supporting the rapid recovery of health services in Aceh and Sumatra. We appreciate this support, which aligns with national policies to strengthen resilience of health facilities and ensure services operate safely and sustainably,’ Agus said.
