Danish citizen dies in Central Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): A 25-year-old native of Denmark died on Sunday shortly after he was found lying against a wall in a Central Jakarta alley with foam coming from his mouth and nose.

Identified as Jon Sorensen, the Dane was found by passersby on Jl. Kebun Sirih Timur, Gang 3.

Adji Rahmadji and Novrizal said they found the foreigner lying in the alley wearing brown shorts, a gray T-shirt and white socks.

Adji and Novrizal, who are local residents, put the man into a taxi and told the driver to take him to MMC Hospital in Kuningan, South Jakarta.

However the driver, Sutarjo, saw that Jensen was dead when he arrived at the hospital and called the police, who took the body to the morgue at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital.

The chief of the Menteng Police, Asst. Supt. Paulus Waterpauw, said he had met with the victims' parents, who requested that an autopsy not be conducted.

Separately, a woman from Germany filed a robbery report at Jakarta Police Headquarters on Monday. The robbery took place on Wednesday on Jl. Metro Pondok Indah, South Jakarta.

Anna Romina Pistor, 52, of Gandaria, South Jakarta, had just finished shopping with her children at about 10:15 p.m. While waiting for a taxi, two men on a motorcycle stopped in front of her and one of the men got off the motorcycle.

He took out a sickle and attempted to grab her bag, but she resisted. The man then slashed her right hand and grabbed her bag, before escaping with his accomplice.

The two thieves fled with Rp 3 million in cash, credit and insurance cards, an Olympus camera, a Siemens cellular phone, several keys and various documents, police said. (07)
