Danis liven up church congress

WAMENA, Irian Jaya: This week's opening ceremony of the
Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) will be enlivened by a
famed student drum band from the Baliem Valley.

About 250 band members from senior high schools in Jayawijaya
regency were flown by chartered plane to the provincial capital
of Jayapura last week.

The same group, standing out for their exotic Dani tribal
accessories, performed in last year's boy scout's congress in
Jayapura.

Jayawijaya regent J.B. Wenas said the group is the pride of
the Baliem Valley, Antara reported. (pan)
