Sonijan (68), affectionately known as Mbah Jan, a senior builder in Lampung, is overjoyed. The migrant from Java, who has dedicated 51 years to his trade, never imagined he would own a sturdy new home in his old age.

This dream was realised through the Bangun Rumah Tukangku programme run by PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk (Semen Tiga Roda). The campaign aims to break the irony of builders who spend their lives constructing dream homes for others, yet whose own dwellings remain unfit for habitation.

In his village, Mbah Jan is known for his sincerity in helping renovate residents’ homes for whatever payment they can afford. He even chose to use money sent by his child working as a migrant worker solely to build his child’s house first, while he and his wife continued to live in their badly damaged home.

Seeing such selflessness, a neighbour recommended Mbah Jan, and his house has now been completely transformed into a safe and comfortable permanent dwelling.

“Every time I build someone’s house, I recite prayers over it. Alhamdulillah, they were answered,” said Mbah Jan in a written statement on Wednesday (5/8/2026).

A similar story was experienced by Herwanto, a builder from Palembang who was recommended by Annisa (27) through content she created. Annisa expressed gratitude that Herwanto’s dream of owning a home could be realised.

“Alhamdulillah, through the content I made, Mr Herwanto’s dream of having a decent home has finally come true. I believe that if the Bangun Rumah Tukangku programme is looking for someone who works with sincerity and heart, then he deserved to be the winner from the very beginning,” said Annisa.

This social campaign has also attracted the attention of well-known presenter Daniel Mananta. As a public figure outside the brand who admires the movement, Daniel said Semen Tiga Roda is not only present in every building, but present in every story that continues to stand strong forever.

“This moment is a reminder for me, and hopefully for you too, not to forget the people around us, that they also deserve a clean, safe and comfortable place to live,” he said.

Meanwhile, Indocement Director Troy D. Soputro affirmed that this movement was born out of respect for Indonesia’s construction workers.

“This is our way of expressing gratitude to Indonesia’s construction heroes, namely the builders. We want to realise their hopes of experiencing the comfort of living in their own homes, after years of building homes for others,” said Troy.

Thanks to this tangible collaboration with many parties, builders like Mbah Sonijan and Herwanto can now live more peacefully, without having to worry about leaking roofs or walls decayed by age.
