Danantara's Investment in Labuan Bajo - BCA Sekuritas
Danantara Indonesia has announced plans to invest in a strategic project in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT), as an effort to drive growth in Indonesia’s tourism sector and create opportunities for the local economy.
As part of the investment, Danantara will collaborate with the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), an existing investor in the project, to deliver long-term value and further support Indonesia’s development priorities.
Danantara’s Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Pandu Sjahrir, in an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, emphasised that this step demonstrates a disciplined investment approach and a commitment to generating financial returns as well as strategic impacts.
“We are delighted to announce this investment and look forward to close collaboration with QIA on this project to enhance Indonesia’s long-term potential, including in eastern Indonesia, particularly Nusa Tenggara Timur,” said Pandu.
He explained that this initiative serves as a foundation for a broader series of investments aimed at producing sustainable returns while consistently opening new socio-economic opportunities for Indonesia.
The company hopes this initiative can strengthen Indonesia’s position as a world-class tourism destination, while creating added value and sustainable economic opportunities for communities in eastern Indonesia.
Pandu explained that the investment to be undertaken is a greenfield project for the development of new facilities from scratch.
Labuan Bajo plays a strategic role in Indonesia’s tourism ambitions as the gateway to Flores and Komodo National Park, which is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
He continued that this initiative is designed to deliver significant economic impacts in the region, by creating jobs during the construction and operational phases, increasing the number of international and domestic tourist arrivals, and supporting the growth of local businesses.
“Located on one of Indonesia’s most popular islands, this investment will help promote Indonesia’s natural wonders and cultural richness, while strengthening Indonesia’s position as a leading tourism destination,” said Pandu.
