Danantara to Study Establishment of Aircraft Leasing Company

The Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) plans to establish an aircraft leasing company. Chief Operating Officer of Danantara, Dony Oskaria, stated that the agency is currently studying the possibility to ensure the future stability of the national airline industry.

“We are also examining the possibility for Danantara to open its own leasing company and so on,” he said following a meeting with Commission VI at the DPR RI building in Jakarta on Monday (8/6/2026).

Dony, who also serves as the Head of the State-Owned Enterprise Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN), revealed this plan after providing updates regarding the procurement of 50 Boeing aircraft by PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (GIAA). He noted that in the procurement of this fleet, the agency will consider various optimal schemes to ensure maximum profitability, including timing, business models, and leasing structures.

Despite these explorations, Dony ensured that Danantara Indonesia and Garuda Indonesia will uphold the existing commitments made between Indonesia and the United States.

“There are certainly many considerations. However, we must certainly fulfil our commitments,” Dony remarked.

As a matter of information, Indonesia has a commitment to the United States to purchase Boeing aircraft. This is part of the negotiations regarding reciprocal import tariffs established by US President Donald Trump. Garuda has committed to purchasing aircraft valued at US$3.2 billion, equivalent to approximately Rp51.8 trillion, through 2029.
