Jakarta (ANTARA) - Badan Pengelola Investasi Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara Indonesia) is currently reviewing various options for the purchase of 50 Boeing aircraft for PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (GIAA).

Managing Director of Stakeholders Management at Danantara Indonesia, Rohan Hafas, confirmed that the company is ready to purchase 50 aircraft from Boeing, but discussions are still at a technical governmental level.

“This is still a technical discussion, meaning we are ready to buy 50 (units), but Boeing has not yet responded or will respond, and it is unclear how many (units) it can supply, whether it be 10 or 20,” said Rohan during an Exclusive Group Interview at Wisma Danantara, Jakarta, on Thursday.

Rohan said that one of the challenges in procuring the aircraft fleet is the delivery time, which could take up to seven years.

“We need to decide which type of aircraft to choose, and if the delivery time is not immediate, we need to think carefully. Because we are still in discussions, as we are potential buyers, we have not yet made any payments. We have said that we need the aircraft delivered in less than seven years, but the average waiting time worldwide is the same,” said Rohan.

Regarding the potential sources of funding for the purchase of 50 aircraft, he said that there are various financing options, including the possibility of installment payments directly to Boeing.

“The sources of funds can vary, but supplier credit is also an option, and we can also make installment payments to Boeing. These are all negotiations that need to be carried out,” said Rohan.

Furthermore, the company has not ruled out the possibility of providing further capital injections to Garuda Indonesia in the future to support the expansion of its fleet.

In mid-2025, PT Danantara Asset Management (DAM) had allocated a capital injection of IDR 23.67 trillion to the state-owned airline.

“Capital injections will be necessary in the future. The plan is to purchase aircraft, but there are long queues for aircraft worldwide, with a waiting time of up to seven years. Therefore, it would be better to merge first to improve efficiency and reduce the number of aircraft needed for each route,” said Rohan.

As is known, last week, Indonesia and the United States signed a trade agreement entitled “Toward a New Golden Age for the U.S.-Indonesia Alliance,” which includes provisions for reciprocal trade between the two countries.

In one of the points of the trade agreement, Indonesia is required to procure commercial aircraft and related aviation goods and services worth USD 13.5 billion.

“Under this Reciprocal Tariff Agreement, there are several activities that involve the Ministry of Investment and Danantara, including the plan to purchase 50 aircraft from Boeing,” said Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, during a press conference held online from Washington DC, USA, on Friday, February 20, 2026.
