Danantara to Evaluate PT KAI Following Train Collision
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, stated that the agency will evaluate the safety system of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI). This evaluation follows the incident of a collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and an electric rail train (KRL) in East Bekasi on Monday, 27 April 2026.
“First of all, we are deeply saddened by the train accident that occurred last night, and we will conduct a thorough evaluation, particularly of the safety of all existing systems, and indeed we always evaluate comprehensively,” Rosan told reporters at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Tuesday, 28 April 2026. According to him, safety is the primary aspect, alongside comfort.
Meanwhile, Chief Operating Officer of Danantara Indonesia, Dony Oskaria, stated that President Prabowo has given a mandate to improve approximately 1,800 railway crossing points. He said that improvements to the train safety system have been included in the government’s work programme for this year.
In addition to the safety system, the Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Body (BP BUMN) said that the management of PT KAI will also be evaluated. “Including (evaluation of management), we will evaluate everything, the causes. Of course, there are authorised parties to evaluate the causes,” Dony said at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
As of Tuesday, 28 April 2026, at 08:45 WIB, PT KAI recorded that the number of fatalities in the train collision has increased to 14 people. Meanwhile, 84 injured victims are still receiving medical treatment.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, conveyed condolences and apologies to all customers and the victims’ families. “Our focus at this time is to ensure that every victim receives the best treatment, families obtain the information they need, and all processes proceed with caution and strong coordination,” Anne said in a press release on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
