Danantara Teams Up with Two Chinese Companies to Develop Waste-to-Energy in Bekasi and Denpasar
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Badan Pengelola Investasi Daya Anagata Nusantara (BPI Danantara) announced two partners for the waste-to-energy (WtE) facility in Bekasi and Denpasar. Danantara has appointed Wangneng Environment Co. Ltd. as the operator for Bekasi and Zhejiang Weiming Environment Protection Co. Ltd. for Denpasar. ‘The selected operator partners are expected to maintain consistent operational performance, ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, and foster sustainable engagement with the community,’ said Danantara’s Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Pandu Sjahrir in a press release on Friday (6 March 2026). Danantara Indonesia is committed to promoting integrated waste management solutions that create positive impacts for the environment and Indonesian society. In line with Presidential Regulation No. 109/2025, this designation is part of Danantara Indonesia’s WtE/PSEL programme aimed at addressing waste issues by strengthening urban waste management, reducing dependence on disposal at landfills, and supporting sustainable energy generation. In keeping with Danantara Indonesia’s dual mandate, the partner operators are required to form a consortium to promote technology transfer, including with regional government-owned enterprises and Indonesian local companies. Danantara Indonesia also emphasised strong governance from the outset, including a transparent and risk-mitigated selection process.
