Danantara Sumberdaya Handles Nearly $70 Billion in Commodity Exports
Jakarta. Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) has handled nearly $70 billion in exports of coal, crude palm oil (CPO), and ferroalloys since it began operations on June 1, Danantara Indonesia CEO Rosan Roeslani said on Monday.
Coal accounted for the largest share at around $30.35 billion, followed by CPO at approximately $22 billion and ferroalloys at $16.43 billion, according to Rosan. Danantara Indonesia is DSI’s parent organization.
“The value of those three commodities amounts to nearly $70 billion,” Rosan said in Jakarta.
DSI was established after President Prabowo Subianto’s administration introduced a policy to centralize exports of certain commodities in an effort to prevent underpricing, a practice in which goods are exported from Indonesia at artificially low prices before being re-exported from another country at higher prices.
The government says such practices have cost the state hundreds of trillions of rupiah in lost tax revenue.
DSI was established to improve transparency and ensure proper governance of commodity export transactions while maximizing the economic benefits Indonesia receives from trade in its strategic commodities.
As part of that role, DSI strengthens the verification of export data and transactions, including the volume and quality of commodities, product classifications, transaction prices, payment settlements, and the repatriation of export proceeds to Indonesia.
Rosan said every transaction must have a reasonable and traceable basis and generate the greatest possible benefit for Indonesia.
Despite its role in export governance, DSI will not take over the authority of relevant ministries and government agencies, Rosan said.
Licensing, regulation, and supervision will remain under the respective regulators, while DSI will focus on transaction verification, monitoring, and transparency.
DSI will also honor existing export agreements, including long-term contracts between exporters and buyers, he added.
