Danantara Reveals the Sectors Set to Become New Investment Engines
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) has explained that a number of sectors are the focus of its investments. These sectors span energy to the digital economy, as they are still considered prospective and could become new investment engines.
Pahala Nugraha Mansury, Managing Director, Global Relations & Communications at BPI Danantara, explained that Danantara’s main focus currently lies in the energy sector, including renewable energy. This focus is closely tied to geopolitical developments that have made energy resilience increasingly strategic.
“Given the current state of global geopolitics, energy resilience has indeed become one of the strategic priorities. But it is not only that – we are also looking at sectors experiencing quite significant development and growth,” Pahala told CNBC Indonesia, quoted on Monday (7/9/2026).
Beyond energy, Danantara is also targeting digital-based sectors such as data centres and artificial intelligence (AI). Danantara intends to develop both sectors, as they require additional capability, resources, and partnerships with other parties, given that they are not yet widely available in Indonesia.
He also believes Indonesia has a significant opportunity to boost its data centre industry, driven by its abundant availability of energy and water.
“Data centres are certainly one of the sectors where we hope Indonesia will experience quite positive momentum going forward. Moreover, several countries around us have long been very active in developing this sector, particularly data centres,” he explained.
Going further, Pahala also views the prospects for data centre development as highly realistic, especially as the Government plans to develop up to 100 Gigawatts (GW) of electricity capacity in the form of renewable energy.
“This certainly presents an opportunity for us to develop the renewable energy sector on the one hand, whilst on the other hand to utilise it – specifically in digital infrastructure or data centres,” he concluded.
