Danantara Responds to MTEL-TBIG Merger Rumours
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) has spoken out regarding its subsidiary of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (TLKM), namely PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk. (MTEL), which is reported to be merging with PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure Tbk (TBIG).
Chief Operating Officer of BPI Danantara Dony Oskaria said his party has not yet confirmed the truth of the report because it is still under internal company discussion.
“I will check later, because that is a corporate action, isn’t it. It is not a shareholder action, so we must check internally whether it is part of their strategic component,” he said when met at the DPR RI building in Jakarta, Monday (31/8/2026).
Dony, who also serves as Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Supervisory Board, said that state-owned companies are also open to merging with private companies as part of their business strategy.
“It is possible, there is no problem as long as it is part of the roadmap. I don’t know, I will have to check later,” he said.
“Basically, every company has its own work plan, right. So later, please ask Telkom about it, how the process will go, because they have their own hierarchy. But so far it is still at their level,” he explained.
For information, not long ago, Dayamitra Telekomunikasi was reported to be merging with Tower Bersama Infrastructure (TBIG). Mitratel has also reportedly asked advisers to submit a plan for the possible merger.
Similar reports were also heard back in 2015. However, the transaction did not take place after it failed to obtain further approval.
Telkom Indonesia stated that Mitratel conducts periodic evaluations of strategic options for business development and long-term value creation. However, there is no further confirmation regarding the report.
“Regarding that specific information, the Company is currently unable to provide further comment,” said Telkom SVP Group Sustainability & Corporate Communication Ahmad Reza.
