Danantara Reports Consolidation of 258 State-Owned Enterprises to Prabowo

President Prabowo Subianto summoned Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, who is also CEO of Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, to his private residence on Jalan Kertanegara IV in South Jakarta. During the meeting, Rosan reported on the programme to reduce the number of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to Prabowo. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the meeting took place on Sunday, 21 June 2026. Teddy said Prabowo discussed the ongoing SOE consolidation process. According to Teddy, the measure is considered important for improving efficiency and strengthening the governance of state companies. “The process of consolidation and transformation of SOEs continues. Out of a total of approximately 1,077 SOE entities, 258 have been successfully consolidated,” Teddy said regarding Rosan’s report to Prabowo. He stated that the reduction of SOEs will continue, “with a target of around 300 entities in the near future. This step is expected to increase efficiency, strengthen governance, and reduce the cost burden that has been borne by the state.” Prabowo had previously issued instructions for Danantara to reduce the number of SOEs starting in 2025. The target is to bring the number of state-owned companies, which currently stands at around 1,000, down to between 200 and 240. “I have given direction to the leadership of Danantara to rationalise everything, to cut from 1,000 SOEs to a more rational figure. Perhaps 200, or 230, 240,” Prabowo said during a dialogue with Forbes Media Chairman Steve Forbes at the Forbes Global CEO Conference 2025 at the St. Regis on Wednesday, 15 October 2025. After the reduction is carried out, Prabowo wants the SOEs to be run according to international standards. He believes the consolidation will increase returns by 1 to 2 percent. Prabowo has also ordered Danantara to seek the best talent. The government has even amended regulations to open opportunities for foreign professionals to lead SOEs.
