Danantara Pledges Sumatra Toll Road Project Will Continue

The construction and infrastructure sector is a business focus of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) under the reform agenda of BPI Danantara. Chief Operating Officer of BPI Danantara and Head of the SOE Regulatory Body, Dony Oskaria, said that of the seven state construction companies, three are healthy—Nindya Karya, Brantas Abipraya, and Hutama Karya—while the rest face fundamental financial problems, with consolidated debt reaching Rp 180 trillion from parent companies and subsidiaries, requiring long-term improvement.

Dony Oskaria is targeting the resolution of the state construction companies’ problems by the end of 2026, and stressed that such issues must not recur in the future. Danantara is also cooperating with the Attorney General’s Office, BPKP, the Ministry of Law, the KPK, and the Ministry of Home Affairs in addressing SOE problems.

Through the consolidation of state construction firms, the companies will focus on the contractor business, so that none will retain additional businesses such as fibre optics, property, water, or hotels. This transformation is also expected to drive infrastructure development, including the continuation of the Sumatra toll road, as part of government infrastructure development in cooperation with the private sector.
