Danantara Invests Rp 44.75 Trillion in JBS to Develop Protein Ecosystem
The Danantara Indonesia Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara), through Danantara Investment Management (DIM), has entered into a strategic partnership with JBS Group, one of the world’s largest protein producers, to strengthen Indonesia’s protein ecosystem and expand investment in Southeast Asia. Under the agreement, Danantara will invest US$2.5 billion, or approximately Rp 44.75 trillion, to acquire a 25 per cent stake in a joint venture that manages JBS’s businesses in Australia and New Zealand. The partnership forms part of Danantara’s strategy to build long-term collaboration with global companies in sectors with strong growth prospects.
The joint venture also has additional investment capacity of up to US$2.5 billion, bringing the total funds that can be managed to US$5 billion. These funds will be used for company acquisitions and the construction of new facilities in Indonesia, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Danantara Indonesia’s Chief Investment Officer, Pandu Patria Sjahrir, stated that the collaboration provides access to business ecosystems in developed countries while enabling Indonesia to leverage JBS’s experience and distribution network to develop its protein sector.
JBS Global Chief Executive Officer, Gilberto Tomazoni, assessed that the partnership with Danantara could strengthen the company’s expansion in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Both parties aim for the collaboration to reinforce the regional protein supply chain, broaden market access, and accelerate the growth of Indonesia’s protein industry. The partnership is also expected to create long-term benefits through increased investment and industrial capacity development.
Although the investment value has been set, the completion of the transaction remains subject to regulatory approval and the fulfilment of certain conditions. Danantara has assured that the entire process will be conducted in accordance with prevailing rules and regulations. If realised, this partnership will represent a significant step in expanding Danantara’s investments while building a more integrated protein ecosystem in the region.
