Danantara: Former Hotel Sultan to Be Demolished for New Iconic Landmark

Jakarta - Head of the Danantara Investment Management Agency, Rosan Roeslani, has stated that the former Hotel Sultan building in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex in Jakarta will be demolished to construct a new iconic area for Indonesia. “At this moment I may not be able to say, but the plan is to turn it into a new area. Eventually, yes (it will be demolished),” Rosan said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Monday. He explained that the changes would be carried out comprehensively to deliver a tangible impact on the economy and the Indonesian people. According to Rosan, the internationally standardised redesign plan targets the former Hotel Sultan area and also encompasses the entire GBK complex. “Not only in this GBK area, but the whole lot will be redesigned, including the golf course and the GBK area, which is approximately 200 hectares in size,” he stated. He added that commercial accommodation facilities would still be built within the new area. Rosan confirmed that the development would provide more accommodation than before to support public facilities in the city centre. “Among other things, there will certainly be hotels. And not just one. So of course this will become a new icon for Indonesia,” Rosan said. Regarding operational management after the project is completed, Rosan mentioned that the government would involve state-owned enterprises in the aviation and tourism sectors. “Later, for the management, we will use Injourney, Meru, and others. Meru is already very, very good,” Rosan concluded.
