Investment and Downstreaming Minister/Head of BKPM and CEO of Danantara, Rosan Pereska Roeslani, estimates that Indonesia’s electric motorcycle market has the potential to reach US$170 billion, or around Rp 3,036 trillion, assuming an exchange rate of Rp 17,858.70 per US dollar.

Rosan said this potential is evident from the large number of two-wheeled vehicles used by the Indonesian public. Currently, the number of motorcycles in Indonesia stands at around 140 million units.

Each year, motorcycle sales in Indonesia also reach around 6 million to 7 million units. However, electric motorcycle sales are still in the range of 60,000 to 70,000 units per year.

“So, (the electric motorcycle share) is only 1 percent. If we look at the future potential, the upside could be exponential,” said Rosan, as reported by Antara on Thursday (13/8/2026).

According to Rosan, this condition shows that the room for growth in the electric motorcycle market remains very large. The government sees this opportunity as part of developing the national electric vehicle industry.

Currently, around 10 national companies have met the domestic component level (TKDN) criteria set by the Ministry of Industry.

Rosan said the development of the national electric motorcycle industry also involves PT Len Industri. This involvement is expected to support the application of international standards to domestically produced electric motorcycles.

“Not only to become a champion in Indonesia, but also a champion in the region, and even a champion in the world,” said Rosan.

President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday (13/8/2026) inaugurated the domestically produced national electric motorcycle (Molinas) and its supporting ecosystem at the production facility of PT Ilectra Motor Group (ALVA) in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java.

In his remarks, Prabowo appreciated the courage of private business players who took risks to produce electric motorcycles amid competition with products from China, Japan, and South Korea.

Prabowo assessed that this step is part of a collective effort to build national economic strength, which he often refers to as Indonesia Incorporated.

According to Prabowo, the development of domestic electric motorcycles is also related to national interests, particularly to reduce Indonesia’s dependence on imported fuel oil (BBM).
