Danantara CTO Reveals Four Main Challenges in Commodity Supply Chains

Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Danantara Indonesia, Sigit Puji Santosa, has opened up about the main challenges facing commodity supply chains in Indonesia. There are at least four issues within these challenges.

Firstly, the challenge regarding technology, for example in mineral extraction activities. ‘In the assembly section, we have a hole in the middle. Why? In the middle, we have a technology challenge hole, where we only extract minerals and then transport them, whilst we do not possess the technological process,’ Sigit explained at the Mindialogue 2026 event on Wednesday (12/8/2026).

Secondly, the matter of qualified human resources. Sigit stated that Indonesia’s human resources are not incapable, but they have simply never been given the opportunity to be trained in the backstream sector.

‘Thirdly, this is an investment problem. Now that Danantara exists, thank God, investment is no longer a problem, so we are ready from upstream to downstream. Ready or not, the investment challenge is not a problem anymore,’ Sigit revealed.

Fourthly, regarding the offtaker, where Indonesia has a large market, but it is sometimes still fragmented.

‘Even though there are state-owned enterprises with import-export flavours in the upstream and downstream sectors. So, God willing, we can build the industry even though minerals have upstream and downstream sides,’ Sigit asserted.
