JAKARTA — Danantara plans to liquidate PT Telecommunications Industry Indonesia (Persero), or PT INTI, a technology state-owned enterprise (SOE) that was once a key player in the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure.

The liquidation plan was announced directly by Dony Oskaria, Head of the State-Owned Enterprise Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN) and also serving as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Danantara. According to him, several state-owned enterprises (SOEs) face issues due to suboptimal governance, including operating in isolation.

‘We used to know many well-known SOEs, such as PT INTI in Bandung which was once famous but now faces problems and may be shut down,’ Dony said at the Jogja Financial Festival 2026 in Yogyakarta on Saturday (23 May 2026).

Additionally, focus on the production process or conversion of raw materials, semi-finished goods, components, or other parts into finished products with added value meeting standard specifications.

Dony explained that each SOE operates and is managed independently, meaning there is no system in place for healthy SOEs to assist those in trouble.

As a result, when a state-owned enterprise faces business pressure or financial difficulties, the recovery process becomes difficult due to lack of direct support from other SOEs.

‘But the lack of a mechanism to assist one SOE and another makes it difficult for us to effect improvements,’ he added.

PT INTI is an SOE engaged in telecommunications and technology equipment production. The company was established on 30 December 1974 and once served as the backbone of national telecommunications infrastructure development.

Between 1985 and 1998, PT INTI was appointed by the government as the sole supplier of Indonesia Digital Telephone Central (STDI). At its peak, the company held around 60% of the national telecommunications infrastructure market share.

However, changes in the telecommunications industry and business pressures have led the state-owned enterprise to face serious issues, placing it on the list of SOEs potentially facing closure.

Besides PT INTI, Dony also mentioned other SOEs that have faced severe pressure, such as PT Jakarta Lloyd (Persero) and PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk.
