Danantara Comments on Rumours of Acquiring Stake in Ride-Hailing App
Danantara Indonesia has finally spoken out regarding reports of purchasing shares in an online transportation application or ride-hailing service (ojol). The Danantara Communications Team stated that the company continuously evaluates various market opportunities to provide socio-economic impact. Although it did not specifically confirm or deny details related to the transaction with a particular application, Danantara emphasised the principle of prudence in every investment step. “We remain disciplined in assessing opportunities based on strategic fit, fundamentals, risk-return profile, and long-term value creation, in accordance with the investment stages we have established,” said the Danantara Indonesia Communications Team in a written statement on Monday (4/5/2026). The issue of Danantara entering the ownership structure of a ride-hailing application first surfaced through a statement by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. In an audience with workers during Labour Day commemorations on Friday (1/5/2026), Dasco claimed that the government, through Danantara Indonesia, has acquired shares in a ride-hailing application. Dasco stated that the move aims to lower the deduction fees, which were previously in the range of 10% to 20%, to just 8%. According to him, this policy is taken to improve driver welfare in line with the targets set by President Prabowo Subianto. Previously, Prabowo had signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 27/2026 on the Protection of Online Transportation. In that regulation, the government stipulates that the revenue share for drivers should rise to at least 92%, while applications are only allowed to take a maximum of 8%. “Ride-hailing drivers work hard, risking their lives every day. Ride-hailing drivers are asked to contribute 20%. I want it below 10%. If not willing, no need to operate in Indonesia,” said Prabowo to the worker masses last week. In addition to the fee deduction issue, the government also mandates the provision of work accident insurance, BPJS Health, and insurance for ride-hailing drivers through the new legal umbrella.
