Jakarta (ANTARA) - Danantara Indonesia’s Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Pandu Sjahrir stated that PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) will operate with a profit-oriented business model through the management of natural resource exports, aligning with Danantara’s Investment Management Agency (BPI) business strategy.

“The initial concept for Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia, operating under Danantara, was always to be a for-profit state-owned enterprise (BUMN),” Pandu said at an Investor Daily Roundtable event in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He added that DSI will initially operate as an agent or intermediary before expanding other functions based on its human resource capacity.

Pandu also confirmed the rapid formation of DSI, which was established last week and officially became a state-owned enterprise (BUMN) on Monday (25 May) with a shareholding structure of 99% owned by Danantara’s BPI and 1% by BP BUMN.

PT DSI has been tasked with managing and overseeing strategic natural resource exports, initially focusing on coal, crude palm oil (CPO), and ferro alloy.

DSI will operate in two phases. In the first phase from 1 June to 31 December 2026, it will act as an evaluator and intermediary between sellers and buyers of specific export commodities.

The second phase, set to begin in January 2027, will see DSI purchasing commodities from domestic exporters before selling them on international markets.

Pandu noted Indonesia’s dominant position in global coal and CPO export markets, and that DSI’s establishment is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s bargaining power with international buyers.

“Ultimately, our main focus is to build a business that opens up a larger total addressable market for our natural resources. We aim to maximise national revenue,” he said.

When asked by journalists whether there would be penalties for businesses exporting without going through DSI from June onwards, Pandu stated that this falls under the regulator’s authority.

He added that DSI will act only as an operator and implementer, with government regulations determining any penalties.

“We must focus on business as usual. Let the business continue smoothly without obstacles,” Pandu said.
