Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara), Pandu Sjahrir, has assessed that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran could have a positive impact on the global investment climate and the Indonesian economy. According to Pandu, easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East can increase global economic stability, particularly through more controlled oil price movements. “If we read it, if this is peace, it is actually good, yes,” Pandu said after attending a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday (18/6/2026). He explained that oil price stability is an important factor that can support global and domestic economic conditions. For Indonesia, this development could also have a positive impact on the government’s fiscal situation. “We see oil prices, there is better economic stability and a positive impact on our fiscal situation and economic development,” he said. Pandu assessed that reduced geopolitical uncertainty would increase investor confidence in financial markets and economic growth prospects in various countries, including Indonesia. He also noted that the current market momentum is quite supportive for global funding instruments. When asked about the high interest of US investors in global bond issuances, Pandu judged that market conditions are in a positive phase. “Yes, the momentum is good,” he said briefly. It is known that US President Donald Trump has officially signed a peace agreement between the US and Iran at the Palace of Versailles, France. The agreement includes a ceasefire, the reopening of the world’s critical energy trade route, the Strait of Hormuz, and a halt to nuclear weapons development. The US-Iran peace deal has driven down global oil prices. Additionally, global oil supply is projected to increase. According to CNBC International on Thursday (18/6/2026), Brent crude oil prices for the August contract fell 1.13% to US$78.65 per barrel. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil for the July contract corrected 1.26% to US$75.82 per barrel. However, the peace prospects remain overshadowed by uncertainty. Trump stated that the United States could resume attacks on Iran if Tehran does not comply with the terms of the agreement. “We will bomb them like they have never been bombed before if they violate the agreement. I don’t want that to happen. I want them to honour the deal,” Trump said in a press conference. Meanwhile, the IEA estimates that a permanent resolution of the conflict will significantly boost global oil supply and potentially create a large surplus in 2027. In its latest monthly oil market report, the IEA forecasts that global oil supply will average a decline of 3.9 million barrels per day (bpd) in 2026 to 102.4 million bpd. However, supply is projected to rise again to 110.3 million bpd in 2027.
