Danantara CIO Optimistic US-Iran Peace Deal Will Positively Impact Indonesian Economy

Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of BPI Danantara, Pandu Sjahrir, assessed that a peace agreement between the United States (US) and Iran would have a positive impact on Indonesia’s fiscal stability and economic growth. “If we read it, if this has indeed found peace, it is actually good. We look at oil prices, we hope there will be better economic stability,” Pandu said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta, Thursday evening, 18 June 2026. According to him, certainty of peace in the Middle East region will greatly influence global commodity price movements, especially world crude oil prices. If oil price stability can be maintained, it is believed this will strengthen the state budget posture. He added that the positive impact of easing global geopolitical tensions does not stop at the energy sector, but also extends to the broader macroeconomic sector. This is expected to provide a safer space for the domestic market. “Of course, it also has a positive impact on our fiscal situation, and later on economic development. So actually, we really hope it is executed well,” he said. In addition to highlighting global geopolitical issues, Pandu also responded to domestic monetary policy dynamics regarding Bank Indonesia’s (BI) decision to raise the benchmark interest rate on the same day, namely by 25 basis points (bps) to 5.75 percent. He stated that Danantara will continue to follow the regulations set by the relevant authorities. Pandu emphasised that as an investment management institution, Danantara is ready to support any steps taken by policymakers to maintain national economic resilience. His party believes the decision has been made with mature calculations from both fiscal and monetary perspectives. “Of course, we will support it, they have calculated it. For us at Danantara as an actor, we will do our best,” he said.
