Danantara CEO Reveals Former Hotel Sultan to Be Demolished for New Jakarta Icon

Chief Executive Officer of the Danantara Investment Management Agency, Rosan Roeslani, has revealed that the former Hotel Sultan building in Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex will be demolished. In its place, a new icon for Indonesia will be constructed in the area. He explained that the change will be carried out comprehensively to deliver a tangible impact on the economy and the Indonesian people. “At this moment I may not be able to say, but the plan is to turn it into a new area. Eventually, yes (it will be demolished),” Rosan said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday, 22 June 2026. Rosan stated that the internationally standardised redesign plan targets the former Hotel Sultan site and encompasses the entire GBK area. “Not only in this GBK area, but the whole area will be redesigned, from the golf course to the GBK area, which spans approximately 200 hectares,” he said. He further added that the new area will still include commercial accommodation facilities. Rosan confirmed the development will provide more accommodation than before to support public facilities in the city centre. “Among other things, there will certainly be hotels, and not just one. So this will be made into a new icon for Indonesia,” Rosan stated. Regarding operational management after the project is completed, Rosan mentioned that the government will involve state-owned enterprises in the aviation and tourism sectors. “Later, the management will be handled by Injourney, Meru, and others. Meru is already very good,” Rosan concluded.
