Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Investment Management Agency (BPI) Danantara has begun to penetrate the global market with a series of acquisitions and investment plans abroad. Head of BP BUMN and COO of Danantara, Dony Oskaria, revealed a number of expansion projects that are being and will be carried out by state-owned companies under Danantara.

Dony disclosed that Danantara has currently invested in JBS, a global protein company which he described as one of the largest players in the world. In addition, Danantara has also just completed a number of property acquisitions in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

“We are now Danantara investing also in JBS, a global company, one of the largest protein players in the world, we invest there. Then we invest in Mecca. We have just finished acquiring a hotel in Mecca, then also other land that we are developing for Hajj pilgrims in Mecca,” said Dony in Squawk Box CNBC Indonesia, Monday, (24/8/2026).

Not stopping there, Danantara is also preparing investment plans in the airport infrastructure sector. Dony mentioned that Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir/Rosan Roeslani will provide an update regarding the investment plan for the airport in Medina.

“We are also planning, Mr Rosan will update it, to invest in the airport in Medina,” he said.

The expansion also targets the microfinance services sector. Dony admitted that he is encouraging Pegadaian to begin operating and exploring the acquisition of a pawnshop company in the Philippines, which he said has a similar business model but on a smaller scale compared to Pegadaian Indonesia.

“I am also encouraging Pegadaian to start operating and acquiring and trying to talk with a company in the Philippines, a pawnshop company there. It is also similar to that, because the business model is the same and we are already more advanced. We can expand there as well,” explained Dony.

Besides Pegadaian, Danantara is also working on the aircraft maintenance sector through a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) unit. Dony mentioned that a state-owned company has received an appointment to build an MRO facility in the Middle East region.

“Our MRO has also received an appointment in the Middle East to build an MRO there,” he said.

Dony emphasised that this go-global strategy is being carried out gradually, one by one state-owned companies are being encouraged to start competing at the international level as part of the grand vision of Danantara’s transformation.

“So slowly, all one by one. So one by one our companies will become global players. This is what we hope for with the transformation that we are currently undertaking,” he concluded.
