JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Danantara Indonesia has appointed two Chinese companies as operators of Waste-to-Energy facilities, i.e. waste-to-energy plants that convert waste into electricity, in Bekasi and Denpasar. Wangneng Environment Co., Ltd. has been named operator of the waste-to-energy facility in Bekasi. Meanwhile Zhejiang Weiming Environment Protection Co., Ltd. has been designated as operator of a similar project in Denpasar. Chief Investment Officer of Danantara Indonesia, Pandu Sjahrir, said the appointment of strategic partners followed a selection process involving a number of international companies. ‘The announcement today marks a significant step in ensuring that Waste-to-Energy facilities are managed to the highest standards of operational reliability, safety, and accountability,’ Pandu said in a press statement on Friday, 6 March 2026. The programme also supports the development of sustainable energy. This policy is in line with Presidential Regulation No. 109 of 2025 which encourages accelerated waste-to-energy processing in various regions. Danantara also requires the appointed operators to form consortia with regional state-owned enterprises, or Indonesian local companies. The scheme is expected to promote technology transfer and strengthen the involvement of domestic players in the development of Waste-to-Energy projects. ‘The selected operator partners are expected to maintain consistent operational performance, ensure compliance with all applicable provisions, and promote sustained engagement with communities,’ Pandu said. ‘We will continue to cooperate to deliver measurable progress in waste reduction and the generation of clean energy,’ he added.
