JAKARTA – US technology company Latitude Energy and Danantara Indonesia, through PT Danantara Development Management Fund, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of coal gasification projects in Indonesia. The project will utilise Transport Integrated Gasification (TRIG) technology, an advanced coal gasification method proven to convert coal into synthetic gas. By producing synthetic gas domestically, Indonesia has the opportunity to reduce its reliance on imports while creating new opportunities for national industrial development.

“The trade and investment relationship between the United States and Indonesia holds tremendous potential,” said Joy M. Sakurai, Chargé d’Affaires ad Interim of the US Embassy in Jakarta, on Friday (10/7).

Sigit P. Santosa, Chief Executive Officer of PT Danantara Development Management Fund, stated that this partnership supports the Indonesian government’s broader strategy to achieve energy independence through the utilisation of low-calorie coal.

As one of the world’s largest coal producers, Indonesia has significant potential to optimise its coal resources through advanced conversion technology to meet domestic energy needs. Latitude Energy is offering Danantara a long-term partnership with management support, technical expertise, and the investment focus required to build a scalable coal gasification platform. The company views Indonesia not only as its first market but also as a starting point for developing coal gasification projects across the Southeast Asian region.

“This MoU marks an important milestone in our partnership with Danantara to advance Indonesia’s energy security and industrial development. By combining Indonesia’s abundant domestic resources with Latitude’s TRIG™ technology, the world’s most advanced coal gasification technology, we are committed to bringing leading US technology to Indonesia, developing local capacity, and creating long-term value for Indonesia’s downstream industries. This partnership is an integral part of Indonesia’s energy sovereignty,” said Jacob Thomas, President & Chief Executive Officer of Latitude Energy Holdings Inc.
