SURABAYA - Danantara Indonesia has confirmed that support for PT PAL Indonesia will be realised immediately to strengthen the company’s role as a leader in the national maritime industry. The support includes resource strengthening, long-term investment, and the acceleration of business transformation to enable it to compete in the global market.

The commitment was conveyed by Danantara Indonesia’s Managing Director of Business 2, Setyanto Hantoro, during a visit to PT PAL Indonesia in Surabaya on Thursday (11/6).

According to Setyanto, Danantara will oversee the funding and strategic investment needs required by PT PAL in carrying out the company’s transformation agenda.

“Danantara is fully committed to overseeing financial support, optimising budget allocation, and ensuring the placement of targeted strategic investments. This acceleration is a priority that must be realised immediately, in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive during a limited meeting in February 2026,” he said.

He assessed that the transformation steps being undertaken by PT PAL, including the implementation of the maritime industry 4.0 concept, are aligned with the government’s agenda of building an independent and globally competitive national industry.

Setyanto noted that PT PAL holds an important position in the region’s defence and maritime industry. The state-owned enterprise is the only shipyard in Southeast Asia with the capability to build submarines.

“PT PAL’s competitive advantage must continue to be strengthened. The company has proven it can independently produce various strategic products by involving the domestic component industry. The impact is not only for the company but also for strengthening the national maritime industry ecosystem,” he stated.

PT PAL Indonesia’s President Director, Kaharuddin Djenod, said the company has prepared various measures to carry out its role as the National Consolidator and Lead Integrator for Indonesia’s maritime industry.

This strengthening is being carried out through fundamental financial improvements, modernisation of production facilities, acceleration of strategic project completion, and comprehensive digital system integration.

“PT PAL’s readiness as the National Consolidator for the Maritime Industry begins with strengthening financial fundamentals, modernising production facilities, accelerating project completion, and comprehensive digital system integration,” said Kaharuddin.

Currently, PT PAL is also focused on increasing production independence and technological mastery to strengthen competitiveness in the international market.

“The defence manufacturing industry has complex characteristics. Therefore, strengthening production and technology capabilities is key for PT PAL to grow sustainably and be competitive at the global level,” he said.

During the visit, the Danantara delegation inspected a number of PT PAL’s strategic facilities, including the ORCA 50,000 Graving Dock, the shiplift construction project, and the development of the Autonomous Submarine (KSOT).

The inspection was conducted to see firsthand the company’s infrastructure readiness and production capabilities in supporting the strengthening of the national maritime and defence industry.
