Damri Opens New Jakarta–Denpasar Route, Fare Rp590,000
Jakarta – The public now has a new option for travelling from Jakarta to Denpasar by land. State-owned bus operator Perum Damri has launched a direct bus route from Jakarta to Denpasar, Bali. The move aims to meet demand from travellers wishing to reach the Island of the Gods by road ahead of the peak mudik and holiday periods.
Until now Damri operated routes as far as Banyuwangi, the last stop before crossing to Bali. However, rising demand prompted the company to establish a direct service to Denpasar.
The new route is still in a trial phase. In the initial stage, journeys will be conducted on a limited basis and will be expanded if market demand is strong enough.
A Damri representative said the route marks an initial step in expanding long-distance cross-island land transport connectivity.
‘The new route we are launching is from Jakarta to Denpasar, and this is direct. Previously we only reached Banyuwangi,’ said Agus Hari Survijanto, Senior Vice President (SVP) of Commercial and Business Development at Damri, to CNBC Indonesia in Central Jakarta on Friday (6 March 2026).
He explained that the service remains limited as part of operational trials.
‘For this initial phase we are running it as a trial run. At present it might be once a week, but it is regular. If demand is good, we will add,’ he added.
He noted that the potential demand for trips to Bali is actually quite large. Therefore Damri is looking to increase trip frequency in the near future.
‘We are confident that demand to Denpasar is high. If the response is positive, it is not impossible that we may operate every day in the future,’ Agus said.
The Jakarta–Denpasar journeys will depart from several points in Jakarta, including Kemayoran, Cakung, and Terminal Pulo Gebang. All three departure points will charge the same fare.
‘For the Jakarta–Denpasar route, the normal fare is around Rp590,000. During the Lebaran period there is usually an increase of about 10% to 20%,’ said Nardi, General Manager of Damri Jabodetabek Branch.
