Damai Cartenz Task Force Arrests Fugitive Involved in Puncak Shooting Case
Timika (ANTARA) - The Damai Cartenz 2026 Operation Task Force has arrested a man with the initials JT, also known as W, who was on the Puncak Police’s most wanted list regarding a shooting case in Puncak Regency, Central Papua.
The Head of the Damai Cartenz 2026 Operation, Inspector General Faizal Ramadhani, stated in a briefing received in Timika on Friday that the arrest of JT is part of the law enforcement process for cases handled by the Puncak Police.
“Law enforcement is carried out based on the cases and available evidence. Every process involving an individual designated as a fugitive must be conducted in accordance with legal provisions, professionally, measuredly, and while respecting the legal rights of all parties,” he said.
The Head of the Damai Cartenz 2026 Operation Public Relations, Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, stated that the arrest was based on Police Report Number LP/B/16/IX/2023/SPKT/Polres Puncak, dated 2 September 2023, regarding the alleged attempted murder of Antonius Padang.
The incident occurred on the road in front of the Pemda Housing complex, Kago Village, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency. JT was subsequently designated as a fugitive on 16 December 2024.
“JT, alias W, is suspected of being involved in shooting Antonius Padang once using a firearm. As a result of the incident, Antonius Padang sustained a gunshot wound to his right knee,” he said.
According to Yusuf, JT is also suspected of playing a role in monitoring the situation during the theft of organic firearms belonging to personnel at the KP2 Aminggaru Airport Police Post near the Kago Market, Ilaga District, on 1 February 2024.
JT was arrested in one of the honai houses in Jenggernok Village, Gome District, Puncak Regency, on Thursday (3/9).
During the arrest, police also detained a woman with the initials EW, also known as KW, who was with JT, and seized sharp weapons and several items for investigation purposes.
Police are still investigating JT’s role in several alleged criminal acts linked to him.
