Damaged Roads in Remote West Bandung to be Repaired This Year, Residents Welcome News
The hopes of residents in Kampung Sawahlega, Wargasaluyu Village, Gununghalu District, West Bandung Regency (KBB), West Java, for a smooth Celak-Sodong road are finally being realised. For years, roads in the remote areas of West Bandung have been in a state of severe disrepair.
According to data from the West Bandung Regency Department of Public Works and Spatial Planning, the total length of the road section reaches 6.1 kilometres. Of this total, 500 metres are in good condition, 1.2 kilometres are lightly damaged, 900 metres are moderately damaged, and 3.6 kilometres are heavily damaged.
“The damage has lasted for more than five years; Alhamdulillah, it is finally being repaired. As residents who pass through here every day, we have been greatly looking forward to this improvement,” said Wawan (55), a local resident, on Wednesday (3/6/2026).
The road damage worsens during the rainy season, as potholes become covered by water, forcing motorists, particularly those on two-wheelers, to be extra cautious. Furthermore, the roads are pitch black at night.
“It is much more dangerous during the rainy season. Additionally, since it is dark at night, we hope that in addition to the repairs, street lighting will also be increased,” Wawan added.
The Regent of West Bandung, Jeje Ritchie Ismail, stated that the repairs to the Celak-Sodong road will be carried out in stages. This year, the West Bandung Regency Government has allocated Rp 2.5 billion to repair 600 metres of the damaged road.
“We will complete this using concrete, gradually,” said Jeje.
In addition to the Celak-Sodong road, Jeje also inspected the Gununghalu-Datar Puspa road, which borders the Ciwideuy area of Bandung Regency, and the Malaka-Cijenuk road in Sindangkerta, both of which are damaged and scheduled for repair this year.
“In the southern region of West Bandung, specifically in the Gununghalu District. As we know, West Bandung is quite long from north to south, but many roads still require attention because many are severely damaged,” Jeje said during his site inspection.
He acknowledged that many damaged roads are still awaiting their turn for repair. The West Bandung Regency Government is committed to repairing all of them incrementally. “Even though it is gradual, God willing, we will accelerate the process. We will also increase the budget to enable even more development,” he said.
He continued that infrastructure improvements, such as roads, will be implemented across all regions of West Bandung, including the north, west, and south. Jeje is committed to ensuring equitable development across the entire region, targeting remote areas rather than concentrating solely on urban centres.
“Indeed, many areas in the south, particularly the outermost parts of West Bandung, face difficulties in infrastructure development. Therefore, we are committed to comprehensive development, not just in the north, but throughout all of West Bandung so that all citizens can feel the impact,” Jeje concluded.
