Damaged Road on Marunda Access Bridge in North Jakarta, Wavy and Exposed Rebar
JAKARTA — The damaged condition of the Marunda Access Bridge in Cilincing, North Jakarta, has been a source of complaints from motorists. The wavy road surface and protruding concrete structural rebar are deemed hazardous to passing vehicles, especially motorbikes.
Based on observations at the site on Wednesday (29/4/2026), damage is visible at several points on the bridge. The majority consists of small holes resulting from cracks in the road concrete. Around these holes, small stones are also scattered.
However, there are several points with quite severe damage. Two of them are located on the bridge side from the direction of SMP 244 Jakarta towards Marunda.
About 20 metres from that point, several concrete structural rebars are seen protruding to the surface. The asphalt layer above the iron structure appears to have eroded.
On the other side of the bridge, traversed by vehicles from the direction of Marunda towards Cilincing, the most severe damage is at the beginning of the bridge. Its condition also looks like it has been recently patched, but the road surface has already sunk and is uneven.
One of the motorists, Nurmansyah (43), said the road condition is indeed better compared to some time ago when heavy rain caused more severe damage. However, he assessed that the patchwork repairs carried out are not neat.
“So now there are still small holes left, but they are actually quite deep. And then, the patchwork result is not even, so it’s wavy. If a motorbike is going at a reasonable speed, it jolts quite a bit when it hits it,” he told Kompas.com on Wednesday (28/4/2026).
He assessed that the condition still has the potential to trigger accidents, especially for motorbike riders.
Another motorist, Aby (35), also complained about the similar condition. According to him, the road damage combined with dense truck traffic increases the risk of accidents at the location.
“On this bridge, incidents often happen. Whether it’s being hit by a truck or the motorbike getting damaged, suddenly stopping. I pass through here every day, except on holidays,” he added.
