Bekasi - Residents are urging the Bekasi City Government not to wait for issues to go viral on social media before repairing damaged roads.

This stems from the recent repair of a road in the Pasar Baru Kranji area, Jalan Patriot, Jakasampurna Ward, West Bekasi Subdistrict, Bekasi City.

The road surface was uneven and wavy, resembling irregular lines that posed a danger to road users.

“It was only uploaded to social media yesterday, and now it’s already been patched. What if it hadn’t gone viral? It might not have been fixed even when it got really bad,” said Heri when met by Kompas.com at the location on Thursday (26/3/2026).

He hopes the government can be more responsive to public complaints, especially regarding road infrastructure that affects user safety.

“The government must repair damaged roads as best as possible. Because no driver wants to get into an accident,” he said.

One resident passing by, Zaenab (46), said the road repair was carried out on the morning of Thursday (26/3/2026).

She revealed that the road damage had been occurring for about the last two years, allegedly due to new market construction activities and heavy vehicle traffic.

Although the road has been repaired, Zaenab believes the patching method is not a long-term solution. She worries the road will deteriorate again soon.

“If it’s just patched, it will definitely get damaged again. In my opinion, it should be permanently asphalted, so it doesn’t waste time and budget,” she said.

She added that the previous damaged road condition did not cause serious accidents, but it often became slippery when it rained.

Kompas.com has attempted to contact Ridwan Muarief, Sub-Coordinator for Road Maintenance at the Bekasi City DBMSDA, regarding the Pasar Baru Kranji road repair.

However, there has been no response as of the publication of this article.
