Damaged Road in Cilincing Only Receives Temporary Patch Repairs, Government Bears Responsibility Despite Private Ownership

JAKARTA - Jalan Swadaya II in Semper Timur, Cilincing, North Jakarta, is in a severely damaged condition and often triggers accidents for passing motorists. There are many deep potholes on the road, and the surface is uneven. “Ouch, it’s badly damaged, especially when it rains, the flooding here is severe. Even motorcycles stall when they come here during floods,” said Endang (30), one of the local traders, on Tuesday (7/4/2026). “Slipping like that happens often, but there are no serious injuries. Hopefully not,” she added when met at the location on Tuesday (7/4/2026). Not long ago, a package courier fell on the road. “Yesterday, two people fell but they were okay. Because of the potholes and it being slippery. They fell twice here,” she said. According to Wulandari, the damaged road condition makes drivers hesitant to speed. “With a road like this, no one dares to speed,” she stated. “No proper repair at all, just patching and sticking (temporary asphalt repairs) like that. The other day, after being interviewed by the media, they came to fix it. But after that, it’s like this again (damaged),” she said. Those repairs only lasted about two months before becoming damaged again. “It was successful for a bit, there was a change. But about two months after the repair, it’s like this again (damaged). It only lasts two months,” said Wulandari. According to her, the current road condition is even worse than before, with potholes scattered almost along the entire stretch. The road damage is worsened by heavy rain and frequent flooding in the area.
