Damaged Pavements on Campuhan Ubud Main Road to be Rebuilt with Rp 9 Billion Budget

Several sections of the pavement on Jalan Raya Campuhan, Ubud, Gianyar, Bali, are currently in disrepair. This condition has forced many tourists walking along the route to exercise extreme caution. “Yes, I have to concentrate while walking on this pavement,” said Sinji, a tourist from France, when interviewed on Monday (8/6/2026).

Observations at 14:00 WITA showed that the most severe damage is located on the southern side of the pavement, travelling from Puri Agung Ubud towards the Blanco Museum. One tourist reportedly tripped while attempting to navigate the broken surface. Consequently, many foreign tourists have been seen opting to use the northern side of the road or walking partially on the asphalt to avoid the damaged areas.

Sinji noted that while the damage is not overly disruptive, it remains dangerous for pedestrians who are not careful. “Actually, I am not too disturbed by this pavement, but it is quite dangerous. It could cause someone to fall,” Sinji added.

The Head of the Gianyar Public Works, Spatial Planning, and Land Department (PUPR), I Dewa Gede Putra Hartawan, stated that the existing pavements on Jalan Raya Campuhan will be demolished and replaced with new ones. A budget of Rp 9 billion has been allocated for this purpose.

Hartawan clarified that the plan does not involve simple repairs, but rather the construction of entirely new pavements. “The plan is to build new pavements on both sides,” he said.

The construction plan is currently in the tendering process. The target is to submit the tender to the Procurement Service Unit (ULP) before the Galungan holiday. Once processed by the ULP, the construction project can officially be tendered. Hartawan did not provide a specific date for when the construction work in Ubud will commence, but expressed hope that the procurement process would meet the deadline set for the Cipta Karya team.
