Damaged level crossing in Serpong leaves motorists slipping frequently in the rain
The railway level crossing in Serpong, which is damaged, often causes motorists to slip when it rains.
There have been instances where someone fell and was helped by locals to get through, said the vegetable seller, Oblong (50), when contacted by Kompas.com on Friday, 6 March 2026.
He said the crossing’s condition is very severe, with holes deep enough to catch out riders and cause them to get stuck while crossing.
The holes are deep, but they have now been filled and covered with stones. This condition has been ongoing for a long time.
That is not strong enough to bear the weight of vehicles or trains passing.
Paving it with asphalt alone would be futile; no matter how thick the asphalt, it would eventually be damaged again.
When it rains, people frequently slip. There have even been falls, after which residents helped them to pass.
Similar complaints were voiced by fruit seller Bambang (60). He says the crossing is often repaired, but damage recurs after some time.
This is actually repaired frequently, but its durability does not last long. Even with ongoing repairs, it becomes damaged again.
Moreover, during peak hours or after work, condition worsens. Sometimes vehicles get trapped, increasing congestion.
He hopes repairs are carried out with better quality so they do not deteriorate quickly and endanger motorists.
Even better would be to construct a flyover, which would also be safer for motorists, said Bambang.
