Damaged for Years, Buleleng's Abimanyu Road Remains Unrepaired

The condition of Abimanyu Road in Banyuasri Village, Buleleng District, Bali, is in a distressing state. This stretch of road, which serves as a primary access route to residential areas and student boarding houses, has been severely damaged and remains unrepaired for several years.

Observations at the location on Tuesday (7/7/2026) show that the asphalt surface has peeled away at several points, leaving behind a layer of coarse stones. Potholes of varying depths are also gaping across the roadway, forcing motorists, particularly motorcyclists, to reduce their speed and manoeuvre carefully to avoid them.

Fauzi Hariri, a local student, stated that the condition has persisted since he began his studies in 2021. As of mid-2026, he noted that there have been no signs of government intervention or repairs.

“Since I started university in 2021 until now in 2026, there has been no repair at all. Although the road is not long, only about 20 to 30 metres, the condition is still damaged,” said Fauzi on Tuesday.

The Undiksha student added that the damage is not limited to a single spot but affects two access roads, both of which are filled with stones and potholes. This situation, he noted, disrupts comfort and poses a danger to road users.

Fauzi explained that Abimanyu Road is a relatively busy access point because it is situated within a residential area surrounded by student boarding houses. The area also hosts several public facilities, including the secretariat of the Hindu Religious Conference (PHDI), resulting in high daily traffic volumes.

In addition to the damaged road, Fauzi highlighted the lack of public street lighting in the area. He noted that the darkness at night significantly increases the risk of accidents.

“There are many students living in boarding houses here. At night, the lighting is very poor; if I am not mistaken, there are only one or two lamps. This condition certainly makes residents uncomfortable when passing through,” he said.

Fauzi expressed his hope that the Buleleng Regency Government will promptly repair Abimanyu Road and increase street lighting facilities. He emphasised that even though the damaged section is only about 20-30 metres long, the repairs would have a significant impact on the safety and comfort of the residents and students who traverse the route daily.
