Damage to 540 Transmission Feeders Triggers North Sumatra Power Outage
As of 07:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on 23 May 2026, 173 of the 540 feeders affected have been restored, said Darma Saputra, Manager of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility (TJSL) PLN UID Sumatera Utara, quoted from PLN UP 3 Medan’s Instagram as reported by detikSumut on Saturday (23 May 2026).
Darma said his team is continuing to accelerate normalisation of the affected feeders. He urged residents to monitor developments in the power restoration.
‘The public can monitor information through the PLN Mobile app or other official PLN communication channels,’ Darma added.
PLN UID Sumut previously apologised for the mass power outage affecting much of Sumatra. He said the outage occurred due to bad weather in the Jambi Province.
‘PT PLN apologises for the electricity disruption affecting parts of Sumatra on Friday (22 May 2026). Based on the investigation, it was found there was a fault in the 275 kV Muara Bungo-Sungai Rumbai transmission in Muara Bungo Regency, Jambi Province, caused by bad weather,’ said Darma Saputra.
