Dairi Man Embezzles Rp 297 Million from Office, Stages Fake Robbery

Police have arrested a man in Dairi Regency, North Sumatra, after he embezzled Rp 297 million from his workplace. The victim had initially claimed to be the victim of a robbery. “The case turned out to be a fabrication by WG. He was not a victim of a mugging, but the perpetrator of embezzlement,” said Dairi Police Chief AKBP Otniel Siahaan. The suspect had previously reported to the police that he had been robbed. Officers conducting the investigation subsequently discovered several irregularities. “The bag that was initially claimed to have been seized by the perpetrator was actually found in the Lae Renun River. Inside it were a laptop unit and several mobile phones,” he said. Police also found discrepancies in the transaction flow of WG’s bank account. Hundreds of millions of rupiah had been transferred into several of his own accounts. The robbery drama was finally exposed, and WG confessed to his actions. He admitted the money was used to purchase gambling vouchers from a Facebook account. “The suspect then used the money to play online gambling in the hope of making a profit and recovering his losses,” Otniel explained.
