Daihatsu's Statement on the Impact of Rising Plastic Prices on Car Prices

JAKARTA - The recent rise in plastic prices is also impacting the automotive industry. This is because several vehicle components still rely on that material. With plastic prices being pushed up due to petrochemical raw materials and distribution obstacles, will this eventually lead to an increase in car prices? In response to this, Deputy Marketing Director of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), Rokky Irvayandi, explained that the current situation has not yet affected car selling prices in Indonesia. Furthermore, Rokky explained that although there has been an increase in raw material prices such as plastic, the manufacturer has prepared various strategies, one of which relates to pricing. Therefore, for the time being, Daihatsu Indonesia has not raised prices for its product lineup. Previously, PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) also explained that the current situation is not only influenced by the rise in plastic prices, but also by the surge in sea freight costs and uncertainties in import component delivery schedules. This can disrupt the production process. This is because if plastic component raw materials are delayed, the assembly line and distribution to consumers will also be affected. Sales & Marketing and After Sales Operations Director of PT HPM, Yusak Billy, said that they continue to carry out mitigation so that consumers do not have to wait long to get the ordered units. “This situation is still under our management. We are evaluating the supply planning for several models and continue to make adjustments to maintain a balance between supply and market needs,” he added.
