Daihatsu Gran Max Turns Out to Be Indonesia's Best-Selling Car in January 2026
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Based on data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), the Toyota Kijang Innova was the best-selling car in early 2026.
Wholesale sales, or sales from the manufacturer to dealers, for the family MPV reached 5,401 units.
However, it should be noted that the 5,401 units come from two different Innova models, namely the Zenix with 2,673 units and the Innova Reborn with 2,728 units. Both models are different generations because they do not share the same platform and drive system.
In fact, if the two models are separated by model, the Toyota Kijang Innova Reborn or Zenix would not be the best-selling.
In fact, if you look at Gaikindo’s sales data for January 2026, the second best-selling model is the Honda Brio, both RS and Satya. The combination of this data is still acceptable because, in principle, it is the same model, only with different segments.
The third rank is the BYD Atto 1. The only Chinese brand and single electric car to be in the top 10 best-selling models. Next, there is the Toyota Avanza, followed by the Reborn and Zenix.
Although they come from the Kijang family, the Reborn and Zenix are different models. One uses a gasoline engine with hybrid technology options, while the other uses a 2,400 cc diesel engine.
In addition, there are many other differences between the two. Starting from the design, drive system, technology, to the structure. This means that they are completely different!
The Daihatsu Gran Max series is recorded as the main driver of Daihatsu’s retail sales in 2025, contributing more than 80 percent. A total of 61,871 units were sold.
In detail, of that number, the Gran Max pickup was the best-selling with 43,199 units. Meanwhile, the mini bus model sold 18,672 units.
This was conveyed by the Director of Marketing and Corporate Communication of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) Sri Agung Handayani some time ago. He explained that there was a positive impact from the MBG program on Gran Max sales.
“We need to convey that there is (an impact from MBG). Regarding the size of the MBG project itself, we actually cannot specifically mention it,” he said.
