Dahnil Reveals Significant Drop in Illegal Hajj Pilgrims: Already 1,200 Last Year
Deputy Minister for Hajj and Umrah (Wamenhaj) Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak stated that the number of illegal Hajj pilgrims during the 2026 Hajj season has experienced a significant decline compared to the previous year, thanks to law enforcement actions and massive government oversight. “We also ensure that this year there is a decrease in the number of illegal Hajj pilgrims,” said Wamenhaj Dahnil after inspecting the Pondok Gede Hajj Hostel in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5/2026). Dahnil explained that compared to the previous year at the same period, namely on the 22nd day of Hajj departure operations, the Hajj Task Force succeeded in preventing 80 Indonesian citizens suspected of intending to perform Hajj non-procedurally. “Last year, by the same date, we had already found 1,200 illegal Hajj cases,” he said. According to him, this decline occurred due to stricter law enforcement, which has created a deterrent effect for both perpetrators and prospective pilgrims attempting to depart illegally. “Why is that? Because there is firm law enforcement and a deterrent effect. Then there is a fear effect, because honestly, our raids are conducted massively, and our preventions are carried out extensively, resulting in a significant drop in illegal Hajj,” said Dahnil.
