Dahnil Finds 400,000 Invalid Hajj Queue Records

JAKARTA — Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak has revealed that around 400,000 records out of a total of 5.7 million hajj queue entries currently undergoing updating are invalid.

“So there are invalid records found among the 5.7 million queue entries — around 400,000 are invalid, meaning the queue will be reduced,” Dahnil said in Jakarta on Monday (14/9/2026).

He said the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is still carrying out more detailed data collection on these records. With the updating process, the administrative waiting period for hajj, currently recorded at an average of 26 years, could in fact become shorter in practice.

“And in reality, the waiting time for prospective pilgrims could be shorter, averaging 14-15 years,” he said.

He explained that before the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah was established, the national hajj waiting period was said to reach an average of 49 years.

On the instructions of President Prabowo Subianto, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah then carried out various data improvement and governance efforts to cut the waiting period.

The results of initial improvements show the administrative waiting period has fallen to an average of 26 years. “So from 49 years, on the President’s order we shortened it to 26 years, and now, God willing, in reality it will average 14-15 years,” Dahnil said.
