Daewoong-PERKI Urge Awareness That 'Angin Duduk' Is More Than Just a Cold

Daewoong Pharmaceutical Indonesia, in collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Cardiovascular Specialists (PERKI), is highlighting the importance of raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases, such as ‘angin duduk’. During a media education discussion in Jakarta on Tuesday, Daewoong and PERKI conveyed the understanding that angin duduk, which is often dismissed as a common cold, can be an early sign of angina pectoris.

Cardiovascular specialist affiliated with PERKI, Dr. Febtusia Puspitasari, Sp.JP, FIHA, FAsCC, stated that angina pectoris is a condition where the heart muscle does not receive an adequate supply of blood and oxygen. “If left untreated until the blood vessels become completely blocked, this condition can directly lead to acute myocardial infarction or sudden death. Patients need to immediately visit a health facility to obtain a proper diagnosis and start appropriate treatment,” Febtusia said.

Daewoong and PERKI stressed the importance of a shift in awareness so that chest pain symptoms like angin duduk are not dismissed as aches, fatigue, or a common cold, but are understood as a signal to seek immediate medical examination. In this regard, strict management of LDL-C levels, known as bad cholesterol, to below 55 mg/dL is important to help control it, whereby a combination approach based on statins and ezetimibe can be an option. “This approach works by inhibiting cholesterol synthesis in the liver while reducing cholesterol absorption in the intestine,” said Dr. Wicak.
