Daewoo head in South Africa slain
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AFP): The South African president
of South Korean car manufacturer Daewoo, Yong Koo-kwon, was shot
dead outside his house in Johannesburg in a possible carjacking
attempt, police said on Wednesday.
Yong, a 49-year-old South Korean citizen, was shot through the
head late on Tuesday, police spokesman Andy Pieke said.
Yong was shot through a closed car window in the driveway of
his house in Morningside Manor suburb.
A spokesman for Daewoo said Yong's family had been notified
and will arrive in South Africa on Thursday. They were already
planning to come to South Africa to visit him.
Carjacking is a common crime in South Africa with police
figures indicating that in the first half of last year some 7,000
motorists fell prey to carjackers.
